Barrie police say they could be looking for two — and possibly even three — suspects after a teen was stabbed last week.
City police continue to investigate a stabbing that occurred on Nov. 15 near Innisdale Secondary School in south-end Barrie that sent a male teenager to hospital.
The 15-year-old victim was treated and later released from local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
An "edged weapon" was involved in the attack, according to police.
Officers were dispatched to the scene, in the area of Bayview Drive and Little Avenue, last Wednesday at about 2:34 p.m.
There have been no arrests and police believe this was an isolated incident.
"(The suspects) appear to be young persons, as defined by the Youth Criminal Justice Act,” Barrie police communications coordinator Peter Leon told BradfordToday and InnisfilToday on Monday.
“We know they don’t attend the school, and we’re not sure exactly what status they have in the community, (or) whether they are students,” he added.
Leon said information in the investigation continues to be limited and no description of the suspects has been made available.
Two students walking near Innisdale school on Monday told BradfordToday and InnisfilToday they generally feel safe on and around the school grounds, but admit there's now concern after this recent stabbing incident.
“I was surprised when I heard about a stabbing here," said Taylor, a Grade 12 student.
“I've never heard of a stabbing at Innisdale — I’ve heard of them at other schools,” he added. "It’s a little bit concerning that it’s around the school, because it’s supposed to be a safe area for the students.”
“It doesn’t really make sense how people want to hurt or kill each other out of nowhere," said Ben, another Grade 12 student. "It hasn’t been like that in a long time. It’s unusual for a stabbing to happen here.”
BradfordToday and InnisfilToday also contacted the Simcoe County School Board for comment about this incident and its safety protocols, but they did not respond prior to publication.
