Barrie police made short work of a Bobcat theft investigation early this morning.

Just after 6:30 a.m., Oct. 25, city police were contacted about the theft of machinery, commonly referred to as a Bobcat, in the area of Veterans Drive and Salem Road in Barrie's south end.

Within 12 minutes, police say officers were on scene and speaking with the complainant.

A short time later, the person believed to be responsible for the theft was seen exiting an open field and was approached by police.

After a brief conversation, the 31-year-old man, of no fixed address, was arrested and transported back to police headquarters on Fairview Road where the investigation continued.

The suspect has been charged with theft and possession of stolen property over $5,000.

The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to have a bail hearing this afternoon, by video, at the Barrie courthouse.

None of the allegations have been tested in court.

Police also say the stolen Bobcat was recovered.
