Police seeking info on Strawberry Festival stink bombers

Police say unknown substance released in tent full of 700 people

York Regional Police is seeking information on the stink bombers that struck the Strawberry Festival in Whitchurch-Stouffville July 2.

The incident occurred around 9:45 p.m., according to police. The force received reports about pepper spray, bear repellant, or a stink bomb being released in a tent full of approximately 700. Police said in a July 8 news release that they are now seeking any video, photo, or witnesses to the incident.

“Through the investigation, officers learned from witnesses that a group of teens may have been responsible,” police said. “Officers are looking to identify those involved and are asking anyone with photos or video, or anyone with information to please come forward.”

The exact substance released has not yet been determined, police said. However, police added that “the effects were temporary, and there have been no long-term issues.”
