Police stop vehicle, allegedly find open alcohol in backseat

On Sunday, March 3, 2024 at approximately 9:40 a.m., a South Simcoe Police Service officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Westmount Avenue in the Town of Innisfil. While speaking with the driver, the officer observed open cans of alcohol in the back seat and detected an odour of alcohol from inside the vehicle. Police determined the driver was currently under a driving suspension. He was placed under arrest following a roadside alcohol-screening device test.

As a result of the investigation, a 53-year-old Innisfil man was charged with operation while impaired, operation while impaired - excess blood alcohol, and operation while prohibited. He was issued a licence suspension for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for 45 days.
