South-end Barrie standoff ends peacefully, man surrenders

A man has surrendered to Barrie police after a south-end standoff that lasted almost 24 hours.

Around 3:45 p.m., Tuesday, police say the man was taken into custody near Mapleview Drive East and Yonge Street. 

No injuries have been reported in connection to the situation. 

Peel Regional Police assisted with the hours-long incident.

All roads have now reopened in the area and GO Transit train service has resumed at the Barrie South station. 

A police presence is expected to continue around St. Paul's Anglican Church for the next few hours.

Police responded to the area around 5 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 11 for a "person in crisis."
