The OPP says officers have recovered a police-issued Colt C8 rifle that was allegedly stolen from a police vehicle in Angus on Saturday. 

Nottawasaga OPP say the theft happened in Essa Township's Brentwood Road area, about 20 minutes west of Barrie. 

No charges have been announced, nor have any other details been released. 

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the stolen firearm remains ongoing.

The OPP says more information will be released "when it becomes available."

There had been a heavy police presence in the Brentwood Road neighbourhood the last few days. 

"The OPP extends its gratitude to the community for their support, co-operation, and vigilance during this process," police said in a news release Monday evening.
