The province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is investigating the circumstances surrounding the serious injury of a 35-year-old man Thursday in Penetanguishene.
In a statement, the SIU said Halton Regional Police officers went to a property in the area of Laurier Road to execute search warrants, and a man on the property barricaded himself in a nearby RV.
Ontario Provincial Police tactical officers attended as negotiators.
“At about 9:30 p.m., OPP officers deployed pepper spray into the RV. The man left the vehicle. The man suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound,” the SIU said.
The man was taken to a Toronto hospital.
Three investigators and one forensic investigator have been assigned to the case.
The SIU is urging anyone with information to call 1-800-787-8529 or report it at siu.on.ca/en/appeals.php.
