A 14-year-old Barrie boy faces several weapons-related charges following an altercation at a south-end intersection Sunday evening.

Shortly before 7 p.m. on Dec. 10, city police say a driver had the right of way at the intersection of Little Avenue and Yonge Street when a group of youths walked in front of his car, forcing the man to stop to avoid hitting them.

Police say the driver called out to the pedestrians to make them aware of their "ill-advised actions" when one of the youths allegedly turned and began walking toward the car.

"Believing that the conversation was going to continue, the driver exited his car as the youth pulled an object from a pocket and held it in a threatening manner," police stated in a news release. "The driver believed that he was going to be attacked and began to move away from the (youth)."

Police say the teen left the area with his friends, but was located at a home a short distance away.

The 14-year-old was arrested and taken to Barrie Police Headquarters on Fairview Road for further investigation.

The youth has been charged with assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, carrying a concealed weapon, unauthorized possession of a weapon and failure to comply with an undertaking.

He was held in custody awaiting a bail hearing today, by video, at the Barrie courthouse.
