Two killed after vehicle rolls over, lands in ditch near Beaverton

Police say a vehicle rolled as it entered the ditch and became submerged in water on its roof; a citizen came across the incident and alerted police

Two people were killed in a single-vehicle crash near Beaverton in the early-morning hours of Sunday, police say.

At 3:20 a.m. Sunday, Durham Regional Police were called when a citizen came across a grisly scene on Thorah Sideroad, south of Regional Road 15 in Brock Township.

Police say a vehicle was travelling southbound when it lost control and entered into a drainage culvert on the east side of the roadway.

"The motor vehicle rolled as it entered the ditch and became submerged in water on its roof. A male and a female party were located in the motor vehicle deceased," notes a media release from police.

"The collision had occurred a period of time prior to a citizen coming across the collision and notifying police," notes the release.

Members of the Durham Regional Police's collision investigation unit conducted an investigation. The area of the roadway was closed for several hours while evidence was collected. This collision is still under investigation.
