VIDEO: Driver captures gravel truck rollover on Hwy. 400

'Looks like his left tire blew and he lost control,' witness says of morning crash south of Mapleview Drive; OPP say charges pending

Dash-camera footage submitted to BradfordToday and InnisfilToday shows a gravel truck smashing into the median on Highway 400 south of the city this morning.

The southbound truck came to rest on its side along the guard rail south of Mapleview Drive.

Ontario Provincial Police closed the two left lanes in both directions for the cleanup and on-scene investigation. No serious injuries were reported, according to police.

Barrie resident Emil Kamel captured the video footage as he was travelling southbound on the 400, approximately two kilometres south of Mapleview and approaching the McKay Road bridge.

“(It) looks like his left tire blew and he lost control and flipped over the barrier and made contact with a car travelling northbound,” he said.

“I didn’t see any interaction with another car before that,” Kamel added.

OPP say the truck crashed into the median wall around 10 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 23.

Two vehicles were involved in the collision and minor injuries have been reported, according to OPP at the scene.

Around 1:30 p.m., Sgt. Kerry Schmidt, with the OPP's Highway Safety Division, said he expected the affected Highway 400 lanes to be closed for another hour or so.

“We are getting close to reopening. It won’t be before 2:30 p.m.," he added.

Schmidt said charges are pending.

The investigation is ongoing.
