South Simcoe Police Service would like to remind residents about our Vulnerable Person Registry (VPR).
This free registry allows caregivers and individuals who may be considered vulnerable to submit vital information that can be used by police in an emergency situation.
The VPR is a community based initiative in partnership with the South Simcoe Police Service, CHATS-Community & Home Assistance to Seniors and other local community partners.
The registry provides quick access to critical information about a registered person, including a detailed physical description, emergency contacts, known routines and the special needs of the individual. Registration is completely voluntary. The database is to help alleviate safety concerns for those that are vulnerable in our community.
A vulnerable person is defined as a person who due to a medical, mental health or physical condition, may exhibit patterns of behaviour that may pose a danger to themselves or to others.
This could include but is not limited to; an inclination to wander, the inability to communicate, fascinations or attractions (water, construction sites, etc.) and social responses (fear of strangers, aggression).
Examples of Vulnerable Persons may include persons with; Alzheimer’s disease, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Acquired Brain Injury or a mental condition that causes a person to exhibit the above behaviours.
