Witnesses sought in probe into stolen police firearm in Angus

Provincial police are appealing for witnesses and information in relation to an ongoing investigation in Angus into the theft of a police-issued firearm, a Colt C8 rifle, from a police vehicle.

On Monday afternoon, Nottawasaga OPP said residents can expect to see an increased police presence in the area of Brentwood Road, about 20 minutes west of Barrie, as the investigation remains ongoing.

Anyone with information that could assist in this investigation can call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Should you wish to remain anonymous, you may call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), where you may be eligible to receive a cash reward.

"In the interest of public safety, the OPP is appealing to the individual(s) responsible for the theft of the Colt C8 rifle to contact the Nottawasaga detachment at 1-888-310-1122 to make arrangements for its safe return," police said in a news release. "Your co-operation is crucial for the well-being of our community."

The OPP says its priority is to recover the firearm and ensure public safety.

There was a significant police presence in Angus on Sunday for the firearm investigation.
