A handful of candidates running in the 2022 Innisfil Election gathered at the Grange Hall Thursday night for a meet and greet with residents.

Originally planned by Ward 2 candidate Carol Griffith for her campaign, she decided to expand and invite some of the other candidates to join.

“Lefroy is pretty isolated in the Innisfil municipality so we decided to ask candidates to come to us and bring along other potential voters to make this event more important to everyone," said Griffith.

The turnout for those running for office covered numerous candidates from all over Innisfil, including mayoral candidate Deputy Mayor Dan Davidson, Coun. Kenneth Fowler who is running for deputy mayor, as well as Ward 7 candidate Jake Tucker, Ward 2 candidate Carol Griffith, Ward 3 candidate Leslie Pollak, Ward 4 candidate Steven Fishman, Ward 5 candidate Linda Zanella, Ward 6 candidate Megan Varga, and public school trustee candidate Dana Stott. Also in attendance was Ward 2 Coun. Bill Van Berkel, who is not seeking re-election this term and has thrown his support behind Griffith.

Some of the main concerns shared among the residents in attendance included the need for transit for the entire municipality, the protection of Lake Simcoe, and the demand for more activities and recreational amenities for young families.

Candidates' handouts and signage were made available for voters to pick up and take home.

Election week is Oct. 14-24.
