Ward 2 candidate hosts campaign fundraising bake sale

Ward 2 candidate Carol Griffith hopes to connect with her community throughout the campaign through various platforms

Over the weekend, Ward 2 election candidate Carol Griffith hosted a community fundraising bake sale for her campaign at the Lefroy/Belle Ewart Legion.

"I want to serve my Ward 2 and holding a fundraiser which can hopefully benefit the Legion with new members would be a win-win," said Griffith.

So far she has received financial support from her family and friends as well as her own contributions to run her campaign.

"I also wanted the opportunity to bring the community together and meet constituents within my Ward and throughout Innisfil," she said. "Elections can be costly if you stray off the mark. One might say I've been frugal. If that's the case then I'm happy. I am not prepared to preach one thing and do the opposite."

Along with going door to door, she says she wants to also connect with residents through the mail throughout the election campaign period.

"As social media is not used by all and I don't want to miss anyone. I've chosen to run my campaign with a sharp pencil with residents in mind. Sometimes we all need help and this was a way to achieve that as well as connect with those in our town," she said.

Griffith was thankful for the turnout of support, which included candidates from other wards and current council members, Ward 5 Coun. Kenneth Fowler and Ward 2 Coun. William Vanberkel (who is also President of the Lefroy/Belle Ewart Legion).

Earlier this year Van Berkel stated he will not be seeking re-election this term.

"Being present made the day even better for residents to reach out directly to him for the answers to questions they had," she said. "I want to thank my family, friends and volunteers who helped bake all the fantastic goodies for my fundraiser. Without their support, I could have never had such a wonderful outcome."

"To all the community in Ward 2 and Innisfil who came out in the heat to support and enjoy the sake thank you so much. To fellow candidates, Kenneth Fowler, Megan Varga and Steven Fishman thank you for looking beyond Wards and supporting someone in your community."

Election day is Oct. 24.
