Neighbourhood Nights takes over The Wheel on Thursday at Sandycove

Evening event will include games and a chance to speak to Coun. Robert Saunders

The fourth Neighbourhood Nights event will take place in Ward 6 on Thursday (June 22) from 6-8 p.m., where residents are invited to mingle in the parking lot of The Wheel at Sandycove Acres.

Before Ward 6 Coun. Robert Saunders decided to relocate to Innisfil 10 years ago, he says he enjoyed his travels to Vancouver and Bermuda, and he lived in Australia for two and a half years.

With an extensive background in food service and the hospitality industry, Saunders took over as the owner of The Cove Café on Lockhart Road.

Running for town council was not on Saunders' to-do list as a busy restaurateur, but he told InnisfilToday that his curiosity was piqued when he inadvertently became a liaison between residents and the Town of Innisfil when the community — who would become his constituents — shared their concerns about a since completed construction project.

As a first-time town councillor, Saunders said that it’s nice that everyone on council has their own strengths. He stated that there is a learning curve, as councillors’ mindsets shift to constantly consider the needs of the people they represent, and — with a diverse ward that includes Friday Harbour, Big Bay Point and Sandycove Acres — there’s a lot to think about.

Saunders says he looks forward to the conversations he will have with Ward 6 residents on Thursday night, and it will be a great opportunity to put faces to names.

The Wheel is located at 2 Weeping Willow Dr.

A family-friendly event, the town has noted the Mobile Youth Centre will be on site to offer life-size board games, lawn games and more. In addition to meeting Saunders, residents can also meet with town staff and community partners including the Innisfil ideaLAB & Library, InnPower and InnServices.

The fifth of seven Neighbourhood Nights will be in Ward 4 with Coun. Alex Waters on Tuesday, June 27 at Innisfil Beach Park.
