Neighbourhood Nights takes over Town Square tonight in Ward 3

'The more calls, the better. I can’t think of a better job that I enjoy as much as this,' says Coun. Jennifer Richardson

The second of seven Neighbourhood Nights will take place in Ward 3 tonight (Monday, June 5) at the Town Square from 6-8 p.m.

Ward 3 Coun. Jennifer Richardson, who will be in attendance, said, “I’m excited to put faces to names.”

Founder of numerous initiatives, such as Light It Up Innisfil and InnisFULL, and formally recognized for bringing the community together with her volunteer work, it may surprise some that Richardson was hesitant to make the move to Innisfil years ago.

As family members lived close to the Richardson residence in Newmarket, she was originally reluctant to relocate farther from them than Bradford. Fortunately, she says her husband saw the beauty and potential of the town and so, after many discussions, the family moved to Innisfil in 2015.

Newly elected in 2022, Richardson says she loves her role as the town councillor for Ward 3. She also enjoys the synergy created by the members of the council who have complementary skills.

“The more calls, the better,” she said when asked about communicating with constituents and addressing their concerns. “I can’t think of a better job that I enjoy as much as this."

Encouraged by her two sons, Richardson says she is determined to continue to make a difference in the town that benefits their generation and every one thereafter. Engaging with the community, being involved in her sons' schools, and spearheading events for youth like Kids’ Bingo and Teen Darts are a few of the many ways she contributes.

Inspired by families she met who have been in Innisfil for generations, she told InnisfilToday that, while she hopes that her sons take the opportunity to travel and explore what the world has to offer, she hopes that they will ultimately add to the roots she and her husband cultivated by living in Innisfil and raising their families here in the future.

Regarding Neighbourhood Nights, the town has previously noted there will be many free activities available for families. The Mobile Youth Centre will be on site to offer life-size board games, lawn games, and more. People can also meet with town staff and community partners including the Innisfil ideaLAB & Library, InnPower and InnServices.

Richardson has complimentary stickers that read #Ward3Proud for residents, and she noted that the splash pad is open at the Innisfil Town Square, located at 971 Innisfil Beach Rd., beside the Lakeshore branch of the Innisfil ideaLAB & Library, where Ward 3 residents are invited to gather from 6-8 pm on Monday.

Following Ward 3’s gathering on Monday, the third of seven Neighbourhood Nights will be in Ward 5 with Coun. Linda Zanella on Tuesday, June 6.
