Ruth passed away peacefully on Wednesday October 19th, 2022, at the age of 85 at Hospice Simcoe in Barrie. She is survived by her loving husband Alfred (Alf) Dick, her four daughters Colleen Jay (Garth), Martha Fabello, Susan Morris (Pam) and Alison Kuepper (Mark), grandchildren Alexander Kuepper, Emilie Kuepper, Catherine Jay (Christopher), Victoria Jay (Tristan), Madeleine Jay, Nathan Fabello and Benjamin Fabello and her sister Joan Morgan (Rob).

Born and raised in Toronto, Ruth attended Oakwood Collegiate and received an Honours B.A. in Sociology from the University of Toronto where she and Alf met. After their marriage in Toronto, they moved to Barrie where Ruth, with an effervescent sense of fun, flourished as a mother, teacher, and pool lifeguard. An excellent swimmer she presided over countless home swimming pool activities for her children, grandchildren, and neighbourhood kids. As a mature student she obtained an Early Childhood Education Diploma from Georgian College and then organized and operated her own business known as “Creative Child Nursery School” for almost 20 years. Full of energy, Ruth was known for her dazzling smile even when later in life she resided at Mill Creek Care Centre. She was active in the community including as a member of The Barrie University Women’s Club and of two book clubs and bridge groups; as well, she served as a volunteer with Meals on Wheels and with the Royal Victoria Hospital Auxiliary. She loved the outdoors, skiing, sailing, running and later, walking daily around Kempenfelt Bay.

There will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday November 5th, 2022, at 1pm at Legacy Funeral Home, 55 Cedar Pointe Drive Barrie (705-728-8282). In memory of Ruth, donations to Hospice Simcoe (hospicesimcoe.ca) would be welcome.

The family would like to thank the amazing staff at Mill Creek Care Centre, Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre and Hospice Simcoe who assisted Ruth with love and compassion, and most of all, Dr. Kerstin Mossman for whom words cannot express our gratitude for her love and commitment to Ruth.
