February 3, 1924 – April 19, 2023

It is with great sadness that the family of Helen Leaver shares the news of her passing on the 19th of April at the age of 99. Devoted mother, wife, grandmother and great grandmother, her joyful spirit and kindness will be sorely missed.

She was born in Toronto to Fern and George Kirk on the 3rd of February 1924. After graduating secondary school at Humberside Collegiate Institute, she wed Dellan Leaver who she remained married to for over fifty years until his passing in 1998. Helen and Dell raised their family in Toronto, spending summers at  Alcona Beach. Upon retirement, they moved to the Innisfil area permanently. She has joyfully spent over seventy years in Innisfil and is a well regarded member of its community. Helen will be missed by her many friends and family in the community.

Helen loved to walk, she walked everywhere. She also loved to dance, every Saturday night with Dad, then in her later years line dancing with the Barrie Butterflies and clogging with the Sugar Foot Cloggers.  She had many hobbies and interests including travel, reading, gardening, playing bingo and doing jigsaw puzzles. Her favourite pastime was feeding peanuts to her beloved squirrels and birds.

Helen will be lovingly remembered by her children, Paul (Maggie), Laurie, and Kathleen (James), grandchildren, Lauren (Ian), John (deceased), David, Denver, Katlyn and Savannah, and her great grandchild, George.

Visitation will take place at the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley St., Barrie on Thursday, April 27th, 2023 from 11 am until the time of Service in the Chapel at 12 pm. Reception to follow inside the lower lounge. Interment to take place the following day on Friday, April 28th, 2023 at 10:30 am at the St. Mary's cemetery in Oakville. All are welcome to attend. Please make any charitable donations to Hospice Simcoe. Online condolences and memories may be left at www.steckleygooderham.com

Mom has gone to join her loved ones and while she lays in peaceful sleep, her memory we shall always keep.
